in[side]out
call for papers
A group of interior architecture and design and landscape architecture academics from Australia and New Zealand
announce the in[side]out symposium on April 22, 23 and 24, 2005 to be held in Melbourne. in[side]out seeks to encourage
new research and teaching into the possible intersections between interior and landscape discourse and practice. This is
a timely call for discussion about synergies between the two areas, where talking and writing shared concerns for the
spatial and temporal qualities of space and place may have the effect of turning existing discourse inside out.
This first call for papers invites academics to submit abstracts for in[side]out. There are no defined symposium
themes. The intent is that the April 2005 meeting will provide opportunities for new collaborations between academics,
from which a number of research areas will be identified.
The criteria for selection of abstracts will be determined by the extent to which proposals address the coincidences
between interior and landscape disciplines and practices. Proposals may also reflect upon teaching and design studio
programs that exhibit interdisciplinary and collaborative outcomes.
It is proposed that final papers will be fully refereed for publication in the 2005 IDEA Journal as research papers
according to Australian DEST definitions and requirements.
Please submit a 300 word abstract outlining your proposal to Suzie Attiwill - [log in to unmask] - by August
20, 2004. Please also include your name and institutional affiliation, and contact details including email and postal
address.
Acceptance of abstracts for development to full paper will be advised by September 30, 2004. Papers of 3,000 to 3,500
words will be due by January 15, 2005.
Further details of the Symposium including speakers and meeting format, including an exhibition component, will be
available in October 2004.
