Dear Keith,
>While some designers talk about ab-duction as a way of
accommodating the re-seeing aspects that go beyond iteration, built into
ab-duction is the possibility of re-duction ad ab-surdum - which means,
we can keep ducting (drawing) until the point where what we are drawing
has lost its connection with what we are drawing from. (absurd = sounds
wrong)
I believe there is the risk of reduction leading to pulverization but I
wonder if the alternative, namely of considering things in their whole
and complex state, is ambitious (while possible) or naive (because
impossible).
Again, I go back to the tendency of experiments in visual perception
using 2D projections or simple 3D objects (cubes and spheres rather than
real products). Is it that testing such complex objects is too difficult
and costly or is it impossible given the geometric progression of
factors that come into play when we see things?
We see holistically but test the parts, that's what sounds wrong to me.
Best,
Daniela
