Title: "On a Scale of 1 to 10 How far is Ottawa from Toronto?"
Abstract
We will present a new classification of measurement scales and relate the
issues of the applicability of addition and multiplication to measurement
units and to problems with the common use of verbal scales, pairwise
comparisons, ratio scales, etc.
We will show that commonly used methodologies produce scales that do not
enable the operations of addition and multiplication and discuss the
practical implications of these findings.
