Performing Arts Technology Studios (PATS), University of Surrey, Guildford
The Open Day is an opportunity to see our facilities, find out more about
courses, both taught Masters (MMus/MRes) and research (MPhil/PhD), and
talk to staff and students.
MMus Musicology modules for 2004-2005
* Popular Musicology, Critical Musicology, Analysis, Aesthetics, and
Screen Music Studies (****new course for 2004**** also available
on the Applied Musicianship route)
* Case studies in 18th, 19th and 20th-century music
The Applied Musicianship MMus has options in

MRes in musicology
This is a 1-year full-time (2 years part-time) degree. Students take
Research Training, one selected module in Musicology from the MMus
programme and complete a substantial (120-credit) dissertation

Research opportunities
Staff research centres on musicology (with principal interests in
repertoire from the late 19th century to the present day, popular music
and film studies) and composition. We have recently begun to accept
students researching performance. Visit the Music Department website for

Research Training, including interdisciplinary sessions and training in
the delivery of a conference-style paper, is provided for all Postgraduate

The University is only 35 minutes from London by fast train, and there are
excellent rail connections with other towns. There is a regular bus
service between Guildford station and the campus.
