£17,624 to £22,948 (Pay award pending) 1 Year fixed term
Members of the Sociology staff in the School of Sociology,
Politics and Law, together with a member of the School of
Cultural Studies, the University of West of England,
Bristol, have recently been awarded an ESRC grant to
undertake research on nanotechnology and news production.
The project, which will commence in March 2004, will
involve a content analysis of national press coverage of a
new biotechnology, namely nanotechnology, as well as a
survey and in-depth interviews with scientists,
journalists, editors, and stakeholders in order to elicit
their views on news production processes and coverage. The
project, which is one of the first ESRC funded projects on
nanotechnology, builds on staff's previous research in
media and biotechnological risk.
You will have a good first degree and a doctorate in one of
the social sciences, or humanities, or media
studies/journalism, or equivalent research experience. You
will also have had experience in one or more of the
following research methods: interviews, textual/discourse
analysis (particularly as applied to print media), survey
questionnaires. The post will be based in the School of
Sociology, Politics and Law, University of Plymouth. You
will be required to undertake some travel to undertake
interviews.
