Just to be clear on this one point of information: the Hon Treasurer's
proposal is to EXTEND the Prompt Payment Discount to Direct Debit payers
- NOT to remove the discount from those who already pay in full in the
first two months. What's more, the proposed new discount would (a) be
more generous than the present one and (b) favour lower paid members
because it would be a flat ?12 for everyone.

Subject: Re: CILIP AGM- subs : getting the cash to CILIP
Good grief no-I feel deeply aggrieved at the suggestion that we should
be pressurised into paying by direct debit. I was once told by an
accountant never to pay anything by direct debit (standing order ok but
not direct debit) and I never have.
As someone who pays my subs by cheque by return of post and gets the
discount for early payment I'd be very annoyed if I lost that discount
because I wasn't prepared to pay by direct debit.
I'm still a floating voter regarding flat rate or the current system but
I do agree with other people who have suggested it is not so much the
money itself but rather the value for money and the whole question of
what CILIP does or should do for the membership that is the real issue
and the cause of leakage of members.
