CELEBRATE THE VALUE OF LIBRARIES TO PEOPLE AND THEIR COMMUNITIES

Three weeks left to enter the CILIP / LiS Libraries Change Lives Award

Library and Information Services in all sectors of the information world are invited to enter a project for the prestigious CILIP / LiS Libraries Change Lives Award.

Its aim is to highlight and reward good practice in any innovative library/information related project that affects people's lives for the better - whoever those people might be.

"We will be looking for projects that bring people together; involve communities; share information or encourage reading or learning," says Nigel Thomas from CILIP's Community Services Group who is Chair of the judges. "A strength of the award is discovering good practice which has the potential to be developed and adapted elsewhere, allowing other communities to benefit."

The winning project will receive £4,000 to put towards their project and a trophy. Two highly commended projects will receive a £1000 and a certificate. The Award is sponsored by the Library + information Show and it will be presented during the Show at the ExCeL Events Venue in London's Docklands, 21 & 22 April 2004.

"LiS is delighted to sponsor and host this award for the sixth year running," adds the Show's Chairman Gospatrick Home. "Our involvement helps us understand the pressures and constraints that librarians face more clearly and therefore develop the exhibition and seminars to address some of the key issues."

The closing date for entries is 30 January 2004. For more information on the Libraries Change Lives Award along with details of how to enter, visit the website www.cilip.org.uk/lcla or contact Louisa Myatt or Eileen Simpson Tel: 020 7255 0650 Email: [log in to unmask]
