Apologies for cross posting
Hello Andrew
It is worrying that the NEJM has not considered that fact the UK
hospitals cannot use IP recognition in a site license. I am hoping
(praying) that they find a solution before January 1st or else there
will be some disappointed users. Along with the Lancet it is a "must
have" for most health care libraries and having to wait for a 6 month
embargo is not a realistic solution. It looks like the paper edition
will continue to thrive in England.
I see that the NEJM had a "library advisory board"
(http://www.nejm.org/Institute/AdvisoryBd.asp) when deciding on their
new site license/access model, unfortunately most the librarians
involved were from North America and were quite happy with IP access.
The only way I can see IP working is if the NLH/Core-content can fund an
NHS England wide deal, Scott, Ben? Though I would hazard a guess, and I
may be wrong, that it would be expensive and if it is not already
in-progress too late for the NEJM's switch on January 1st 2005.
Also, apologies to NHS librarians in Scotland, Wales and Northern
Ireland as I have no idea whether you are facing the same problems on
January 1st or have found a solution?
I would also be interested to here other views on the New NEJM plans for
institutional access.

Subject: NEJM and IP Recognition
Hello
Am I only one who is alarmed that from January 2005 the NEJM is going to
insist on IP recognition, unless we pay for access through Ovid? If
anybody has an opinion on this I would be interested to here it.
