a) LinkSource Added to EBSCO Portfolio
--------------------------------------

Eduserv Chest is pleased to announce that LinkSource, the link resolver
from EBSCO, may now be licensed by institutions via Chest, with
significant savings on EBSCO's normal academic pricing.

Pricing is based on the FTE numbers at an institution and subscription
during the current year of the agreement for EBSCO databases will be
pro-rated. The annual pricing is shown below. VAT should be added.

1,999 and below FTE: £1,995
2,000 to 4,999 FTE: £3,100
5,000 to 9,999 FTE: £3,700
10,000 to 14,999 FTE: £4,200
15,000 + FTE: £4,995

The following description of LinkSource has been provided by EBSCO:

LinkSource is a powerful link resolver, designed to extend research
collections to take advantage of all available resources. The
LinkSource menu is easily configured to support links to full text and
secondary databases, search enginesk document delivery services,
interlibrary loan vendors, online catalogues, etc.

Full details may be found at
<http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/ebsco/>

b) OLinks Open Source Open URL Resolver
---------------------------------------

OhioLINK has created its own URL resolver for journals and other
materials. OLinks is an open-source OpenURL resolver intended for use
by library consortia, individual libraries, and other organisations with
a need to manage citation linking using the OpenURL standard.
Introductory information can be found at this site
<http://olinks.sourceforge.net/>. OLinks 2.2 is available for download,
but you need to be aware that this is not a simple install-it-and-go
application and you would be advised to contact Thomas Dowling
<mailto:[log in to unmask]> on the OhioLINK staff if you are
interested in using it.

c) Call for Expressions of Interest in Reach Online Technical ICT
Course Materials
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We believe that online training is an efficient method to provide
learners with the flexibility they need to acquire new skills, learning
at their own pace and at any location. Reach Online have approached
Eduserv Chest with a proposal to supply their online courses under a
Chest Agreement. This message will be of particular interest to those
involved in staff development.

The courses are designed by MindLeaders who have been designing
courseware since 1981 and combined with Reach Online's Management
Information System institutions and colleges can track and monitor
learners. The courseware is SCORM/AICC compliant and can be integrated
with VLEs such as Blackboard and WebCT. Reach Online is already
supplying a number of Universities and Colleges in the UK.

The courseware has been specifically designed for Internet delivery. No
additional hardware or software resources are required as a PC connected
to the Internet is all that is required to access the courseware at the
desktop. Courses are therefore accessible anywhere, anytime so that
learners can learn at home or any location throughout the world.

Using the courseware both experienced IT staff and novices can acquire
new skills. Courses are designed to be highly interactive and engaging
with intuitive navigation which facilitates deployment across multi-site
organisations without expensive intervention by training staff.

A range of course plans will be available under a Chest Agreement;

End User Desktop Computing
- how to use common desktop computing applications like Crystal Reports,
Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook, Lotus Notes and
Paintshop Pro. Learn about operating systems, the Internet, and more.
Prepare for Microsoft Office Specialist certification exams.

End User Business Skills Development
- Improve your business management, time management, and negotiating
skills. Learn more effective business communication techniques. Develop
other key business skills such as methods to improve customer service
and build motivation.

Technical General
- Study the latest technical topics from CompTIA to Oracle to Novell.
Gain training on the latest programming languages and other technical
computing subjects. Prepare for various technical certification exams.

Technical Microsoft
- Learn the latest in technical Microsoft topics. Help prepare for the
MCSE core and elective exams required to earn Microsoft certifications.

Technical Web Development
- Learn how to create everything from simple to complex, interactive Web
sites with our Web development courses, covering the latest in Web
technologies.

New CLAIT
- Computer Literacy and Information Technology, is the latest basic
computer curriculum program for pre-university students in the United
Kingdom. Five interactive courses covering word processing, electronic
communications, spreadsheets, databases and presentation graphics are
available.

Details of the Certification Courses available can be found here
http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/mindleaders.rtf .

The course plans will be purchased in units in advance by the licensee
and learners can then be allocated the appropriate number of units for
the appropriate course plan on a "draw down basis" at a convenient time.
The term of each learner's units will be one year from the date of
issue. There will be considerable discounts under a Chest agreement for
volume purchases. The price is still under negotiation.

More details about the supplier and the courseware including an
opportunity to try some of the courses can be found at
www.reachonline.co.uk.

Please let Eduserv Chest know if you are interested in Reach Online
Products by submitting this form
