Apologies for cross-posting. This message is for WebBridge and MetaFind
users in the UK and Ireland who have implemented or are planning to
implement Web of Science as a WebBridge and/or MetaFind resource.

Some of you may have already seen the attached message about the new
version of Web of Science which will become available in April 2005.
I have already contacted Linda Humphreys of JIBS User Group, Christopher
Powell of Thomson Scientific and Ross MacIntyre of MIMAS to stress the
need for libraries using link resolvers and metasearch interfaces to
have sufficient time to allow for technical issues to be resolved. I
have also pointed out that there are users of other link resolvers and
metasearch interfaces than SFX and Metalib that MIMAS and Thomson
Scientific seem to have in mind.

If you have WebBridge and/or MetaFind and subscribe to Web of Science
in the UK and Ireland, you may wish to contact some or all of the people
listed above to register your interest. I understand that we will no
longer be accessing the Intranet version of Web of Science as we do at
present, but as we've been hearing from libraries on the other side of the
Atlantic, there may be new challenges that we are not aware of.

Mieko

Web of Science/Web of Knowledge Renewal Progress:

Thomson Scientific and JISC are currently finalising the renewal pricing for
September 2005. The JISC Consultation period is expected to begin on
September 1st 2004 for a sixty day period; during this period librarians
will also be given the opportunity to access the new upgraded versions of
Web of Science and Web of Knowledge. A full upgrade to these versions for
the UK community is planned for April 2005, with dual access running through
to September 2005 when the current version of Web of Knowledge will be
switched off and replaced with the new version.

>From September 2005 the Web of Knowledge service will be hosted by Thomson
Scientific in Ireland, MIMAS will continue to run the helpdesk and user
training workshops, together with their colleagues from John Rylands
University Library of Manchester. Users will be able to access Biosis
Previews, CAB Abstracts, Inspec, FSTA and Psycinfo, subject to subscription,
via the Web of Knowledge platform.

Usage statistics will be COUNTER compliant and available for each product,
Thomson Scientific is also working with JISC on the implementation of
Shibboleth.

More information will follow on this upgrade in due course via MIMAS.

The A-J JISC Banding will be used for the renewal of this agreement,

any page
