PhD Research Studentship (EPRSC Industrial CASE)
“GIS as a tool for developing Open Space Strategy and Sustainable Land
Management”
------------------------------------------------------------------
Applications are sought for this industrial CASE PhD studentship,
scheduled to run from October 2004 to September 2007.
The initial aim of the research is to develop and test a robust
methodology for Open Space Audit and strategy development, using GIS.
Techniques used to gauge target compliance for accessible and non-
accessible open space will be compared between sites and between spatial
scales to identify ‘best practice’. This work will tie closely into
Telford and Wrekin’s proposed Open Space audit, covering elements of
schema design, data capture and analysis, within the context of the Local
Development Framework, Green Network requirements, PPG17 recommendations
and the Regional Spatial Strategy.
The research will be undertaken over a period of 3 years by a Full Time
PhD research student enrolled at Aston University. It is planned that the
project commence in October 2004.
Candidates should have academic training or other experience in relevant
areas, e.g., planning, GIS, census modeling or environmental survey.
Previous GIS experience is not essential, as training can be given.
However, a strong interest in the applied analysis of mapped data will be
vital.
