The Fundación Duques de Soria is organizing a summer course on the
applications of spoken language systems in Soria (Spain) from July 12
to July 16 2004.
Topics covered are: objective assessment of spoken language systems
(R. San-Segundo, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid), emotions in
person-machine communication (J.M. Montero, Universidad Politécnica
de Madrid), prosody in natural human interaction (A. Hidalgo,
Universidad de Valencia) and the commercial development and
applications of spoken language systems (J,. Relaño, Telefónica I+D;

facility in Manchester. UK. The successful candidate will have the
following responsibilities: providing usability support to project and
product teams, including the analysis and investigation of
applications/systems, with an emphasis on voice response,
conversational, and multimedia user interfaces. Creates, evaluates,
and modifies prototypes to support evolving software application
development. May assist in developing design concept and
implementation, with input as to user interface design
considerations. Develops and applies voice user interface design and
usability processes in the investigation of technical problems. May
produce specifications describing user interfaces and internal
structures for product being developed. Participates in the
preparation of test materials, usability test facilitation, lab and
equipment maintenance, and evaluation of usability test results.
Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Cognitive Science, Human
Factors, Psychology, Linguistics or a related field or equivalent
experience with knowledge of prototype development and general
interaction design/usability principles. Excellent written and verbal
communication skills required. Excellent customer facing skills and
experience essential. Experience working on multidisciplinary teams a

Tuller on a grant concerning a dynamic approach to phonological
acquisition
in adults. The relevance of the work is to second-language learning,
rehabilitation after head traum and stroke, and computer-aided
remediation
devices. Expertise in speech synthesis and an interest in the scientific
problem are required. The position is available starting the end of
summer
2004, and would be for 3 years assuming satisfactory performance. The
stipend follows NIH guidelines and is dependent on number of years post
