the chief culprit in this respect is the last temptation of christ (in itself an echo of taxi driver in relation to settling down with a prostitute; watching the two brothel scenes side-by-side is jarring)
but also:
farewell my concubine
o'shea
dust
true romance
heaven's gate, perhaps
there's a slight suggestion of as much in ucho ("the ear" - kachyna, 1969; czech new wave film)
is there a documentary on king edward (the resignee), which also conforms to this trend if one believes gossip re mrs simpson's CV?
there must be a fassbinder film in which this happens too. and i've a feeling there's a kieslowski one - but i can't think of it.

Subject: Hosea
I am working on a study of the various uses of the Hebrew Bible book "Hosea"
in popular culture. Hosea is the biblical book about a prophet of God who
is commanded by God to marry a prostitute. Does anyone know of instances of
this type depicted in film? Please let me know.
