Although the art historian John Shearman prefers to reserve 'liminal' for
describing those zones of real space which lie at the threshold of
represented space, but are not part of represented space.
Is this understanding of the term 'liminal' one recognised within the film
community? If so, what term would one use to describe zones between depicted
spaces shown within a representation?
Best wishes,
