Markopoulos withdrew his films from circulation years ago so they'll be
hard to find, though some archive might hold some of them. Restored
versions, however, have been shown at various places in recent years.
Catch as catch can. . . His main activity before his death was a
reconceiving / reworking of his entire body of work into a multi-day
cycle of films to be shown at an outdoor site in Greece each summer and
Robert Beavers has continued this project. I just read a glowing article
by P. Adams Sitney in this month's Artforum about the two nights
presented in Arcadia this year. Sitney wrote one of the most substantial
pieces on Markopoulos in the first edition of Visionary Film but the
chapter was withdrawn in the second edition after a falling out with
Markopoulos. It might, however, have been restored in the third edition
that came out last year.
I'm pretty sure that you'll be able to rent Harrington's personal work
from the Filmmakers Coop in NY and/or Canyon Cinema in California. Some
of his films are also shown in the Essential Cinema series at Anthology
Film Archives in NY. Check IMDB for availability his commercial work on
video or dvd.
