I can think of two good reasons for excluding TV movies from a general
study of film:
1. the acknowledged elitism and prejudice of cinemaphiles.
2. consideration of TV movies as different because they are seen first via
a medium distributed to (virtually 100%) private residences (and until
recently, using public air space) - and therefore subject to different
audiences, production values, critical standards, histories, expectations,
advertising strategies, etc.
