The University of Manitoba is seeking applications or nominations for a
Canada Research Chair established by the Government of Canada to enable
Canadian universities to foster world-class research excellence. The
University?s Strategic Research Plan includes a Tier 1 Chair in the
Faculty of Arts in the interdisciplinary area of Globalization and
Cultural Studies. The position represents an exciting opportunity for
innovative and outstanding scholars who are recognized internationally
as leaders in their field, have a national funding record, and
currently hold the rank of Professor or senior Associate Professor. The
appointment will be tenured with limited teaching responsibilities and
is anticipated to take effect January 1, 2006 or soon thereafter.

disciplines such as Anthropology, Economics, Political Studies, and
Sociology, or interdisciplinary fields such as Cultural Studies, Native

The successful applicant would be appointed in the department of
his/her choice, with the possibility of a cross-appointment in other
relevant departments.

The successful applicant will demonstrate a firm grasp of the key
issues and literature associated with the broad themes of Globalization
and Cultural Studies. A PhD and an established outstanding record of
publication that demonstrates a successful and active research program
is required. Experience in teaching and mentoring graduate students is
expected. We have an interest in candidates who have demonstrated an
ability to promote discussion, debate, and research collaborations
across traditional disciplinary boundaries.
