Folks:
I have finally gotten to see the DVD of "Heaven", by Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run). I am bowled over by the experience, especially the ending, which reminded me a little of Thelma and Louise, except a lot more effective. The director's hypnotic eye is what fascinates me, in a film that is much less kinetic than Lola Rennt. He often holds the shot for a lot longer than is standard, and has a wonderful knack for surreal clarity in his shot compositions, locales, color saturation and camera angles. I just wondered what others thought of it; the reviews available on the web are rather thin. Cate Blanchett may be one of the world's best screen actresses at this moment, and it is her expressive ability that makes a difficult protagonist so identifiable.
