I have viewed the film six months ago on DVD. I
purchased it at an oriental mall.
I love the film.
One month ago I have viewed it in theatres and it
actually made a differnce.
Takeshi Kitano is currently the best contemporary
Japanese director and I like his films a lot. I
greatly enjoyed "Aniki" (or "Brother") and I loved
Zatiochi: The Blind Swordman.
The film, to me, is comprized of contemporary themes
and music while using the ideal and excecution of
Kabuki.
It may not be Kabuki, but it does contain its
elements.
American would call them dance numbers, or sequences,
but they actually belong and do not stray, or take
away from the finished product.
