My Brilliant Career (Miles Franklin/Gilian Armstrong)
Little Women (L.M. Alcott/Armstrong)
Both portraits of the artist as a young woman. The latter an underrated
version of a story that had great appeal to the young narrative artist in
many a girl and maybe the occasional boy and says some fascinating things
( in some sense speaks for its age) about the relation of experience,
fiction and philosophy (including transcendental philosophy if I remember
rightly).
