Dear all,
I'm working on my MA thesis on the
transcultural/transnational reception of Japanese anime,
drawing examples mostly from a TV series called Cowboy
Bebop. I'm specifically zeroing in on the ideas of
uncanniness, translation and random juxtaposition. The
notion of uncanniness is to capture the sense of liminal
space between familiarity and unfamiliarity in the viewing
exxperience of a text invested with codes from different
cultural spaces. Translation comes in as metaphoric
device to transfer the cultural-linguistic meanings from
one context to another. Lastly, random juxtaposition is
explicated as a sort of multiculturalist style prevalent
in postmodern (if you will) audio-visual work (e.g. Blade
Runner, Ghost in the Shell).
I was hoping that I can be advised of any readings that
may be relevant to any of the above three topics.
Thanks in advance,
wendy
