FILM STUDIES
The School offers postgraduate studies in film, with an emphasis on
European Film Studies.
MSc (one year taught programme) in European Film Studies
MSc by Research (one year), MPhil. (two years) and PhD (three years).
• The taught course comprises a two-term module on Film Theory and
Criticism and a range of options including Early European Cinema: From
Lumière’s Cinématographe to Eisenstein’s Montage Film; Italian Cinema:
Neorealism and its Modulations; British and Irish Cinema since 1945;
French Cinema: The Nouvelle Vague and Contemporary Trends; Cinema: Time,
Space, Memory.
• Research degrees include research training, assignments and supervised
work on a dissertation on a wide range of topics.
