There are valid reasons for reviling Freud. For feminists, he betrayed Dora
when it is evident her complaints against her father had a real basis -- her
father had traded his daughter off for the man's wife. Freud knew the
complaints by his female clients/patients were valid, but betrayed them to
the establishment for fear of what would happen if he pronounced child
sexual abuse a major problem -- instead he blamed/sexualised the children.
Likewise, he caved in to pressure on homosexuality. The consequences of his
betrayal were enormous. However, Freud is so monumentally important that we
must read him in order to be able to denounce him!
