Invitation for a chapter on Germany’s film and TV in an edited book
European Cinemas in the Television Age.
European Cinemas in the Television Age, ed. by Dr. Graham Roberts
(Institute of Communications Studies, University of Leeds) and Dr. Dorota
Ostrowska (Institute of Communications Studies, University of Leeds)
European Cinemas in the Television Age develops the understanding of the
production structures of European cinemas from the perspective of their
relationship with television industries. The book explores the
television-cinema relationship in different European contexts presented
in national chapters dealing with France, UK, Poland, Spain, Italy,
Denmark and Germany. Each national chapter explores the issues of
technology, audiences and production culture in the context of the
television-cinema interaction.
In every European country television has transformed economic,
technological and aesthetic terms in which the process of cinema
production had been conducted. Television’s growing popularity has
drastically reshaped cinema’s audiences and forced governments to
introduce policies to regulate the interaction between cinema and
television in the changing and dynamic audio-visual environment. The
recognition of the impact of television upon European cinemas offers a
more authentic and richer picture of cinemas in Europe in which popular
and commercial production not only co-exists and cross-breads with the
art house one but virtually makes the latter possible through
subsidizing, distributing and exhibiting.
The editors are inviting a contribution for a chapter on Germany of about
6,000 words due on 1st September 2004.
Proposals 500 words maximum to be submitted by 1st March 2004 to
