IndieLisboa 2004 is the first edition of the International Independent
Film Festival that will be held in Lisbon between September 24th and
October 2nd.
This Festival will be a privileged event to meet the most recent and
interesting works of independent cinema from all over the world. The main
aim of the Festival is to discover new films and new directors, in the
universe of independent cinema.
IndieLisboa is focused in an international film competition with a
demanding selection and it will bring to Lisbon directors, producers,
journalists, critics, etc.. The Festival wants to make a difference at a
national level but also project itself internationally, among festivals
with the same goals. This is one of the reasons that make us believe it is
essential to have the editorial attention and presence of the
international press.
The Festival’s program will be composed by an Official Competition of
feature and short films (approximately 30 of each, all genres - fiction,
animation, documentary and experimental). The films must have never been
screened before in Portugal and should have been concluded in 2003 or
2004, with special preference to first and second films, in a clear bet in
new directors.
The Festival will also have parallel and special sections, namely the
Observatory (features and short films that can not integrate the Official
Competition but which are also essential films to the independent
contemporary cinema scene) and the “Independent Hero”, a small homage with
the presentation of a retrospective of a personality’s work, which has
always been connected to independent cinema, and which could be a
director, actor/actress, producer or some other; the honoured will be in
the festival to present his work. The Festival has also programmed special
sections that will be mostly composed by screenings to the younger
audiences, in cooperation with Lisbon’s schools and tickets will be free.
The international Jury will be composed by personalities of the
cinematographic environment or related with it, with a minimum of three
and a maximum of five elements, of which one, at least has to be
Portuguese. All the paying audience of the Competition and Observatory
exhibitions will compose the Audience Jury.
