JOURNAL of MEDIA PRACTICE
CALL FOR PAPERS 2004-05
The Journal of Media Practice is a peer-reviewed journal (three issues per
year, with e-supplements where appropriate), established to provide a forum
for discussion of practice-based research, to explore pedagogies in
practice-based teaching, and to debate institutional issues and
industry-related contexts. Contributions are currently sought in the
following areas:
· analysis of practical work that explores the shifting boundaries between
existing and emerging media forms (film, television, multimedia, the web)
connecting education with creative and industry-oriented practice;
· accounts of innovative and effective teaching practice, especially where
these might contribute to 'benchmark' standards in any given field;
· accounts of research projects which offer progressive and radical
exploration of screen-based forms;
· issues around the short film: aesthetics, markets, etc.
· questions of national identity and the role of film schools and HE
institutions in creating a sense of 'national cinema';
· accounts by staff and / or student postgraduates of practice-based
research. High-quality dissertations that centre on or around practice
will be given serious consideration and staff are encouraged to submit such
work produced in their Department over the last year or two.
There seems to be a substantial debate emerging over 'values' - the value
of culture, such as in Tessa Jowell's recent essay, the value of arts
research - a current seminar from the AHRB. Any proposals for responses to
these initiatives from a JMP perspective are welcome.
The journal is also committed to providing space for exploratory thinking
through essays and short communications not intended for formal peer
review. It welcomes reviews of books, CD-ROMs and other works published or
exhibited in various forms that address relevant issues.
Sole or joint guest editorship of special issues is actively encouraged.
Please contact the editor with proposals.
