Serge Daney, one of the greatest and most thoughtful film critics of all
time, was a big fan of lists. He once began a list of the key films of
the 1970s with the words, 'Le plaisir enfantin des listes, succombons-y'
which, barbarically translated, would give something like: 'Let's give
in to the childish pleasure of lists'. But why childish...?
