Generally, when one talks of the portrayal of the Orient in Hollywood film,
or the portrayal of the USA (and Europe) in Asian film, it brings one back
to the age-old models of Orientalism and Occidentalism, which have been
proliferating in literary studies and postcolonial theories. For the former,
I think of films like "Kill Bill", "Shanghai Noon" and its various sequels,
"The Replacement Killers", "Crying Freeman", which are generally
classifiable under the genre of the gangster film or action thriller. For
the latter, Deepa Mehta's "Hollywood Bollywood" comes to mind which is an
exploration of Indians in the West(London???I cannot exactly remember) and
their narratives which take on the romance plot differently.
