Cold War Orientalism would also be a useful book this issue.
Films thematizing USAmerican imaginary of the "Orient" are plenty:
Madam Butterfly (starring Anna May Wong)
M. Butterfly (starring John Lon)
William Holden's films set in Hong Kong, such as "The world of Susie
Wong",
and a wonderful Hong Kong film, "Comerade, almost a love story", dealing
with William Holden's "legacy" for the older generation Hong Kong-ers and
the imaginary of USAmerica (esp. NYC) on the part of the younger
generation of Chinese emigrants.
and more ...
