My short answer is yes. A general theory of meaning should explain film
meaning. Film I would say uses various kinds of meaning. Its images and
language are propositional, whereas its music isnt. So I should say that a
general theory of propositional meaning should explain the picture/talk
meaning of film. Art, I like to think, makes a virtue of the kind/s of
meaning humans have. So if we know how meaning works we know what art has
to work with.
