Regarding generic questions, the best thing would be to look at literature
on the given genre.
Regarding happy endings and endings in film in general: If you read German,
there's a book by Thomas Christen you might wish to consult: Das Ende im
Spielfilm. - Marburg: Schueren, 2002. - ISBN 3894725079
Focus largely on the films of Michelangelo Antonioni, but also features some
passages dealing with happy endings. Might be of use.
There's some pertinence also in the whole discussion of closed/open endings,
so perhaps it might be useful looking into some of the more interesting books
by screenplay theorists: Christopher Vogler ("The Writer's Journey"), Robert
McKee ("Story"), for instance.
So much for the moment.
