editor in the late '30s, and as director for Gainsborough, before moving on
to assess his horror work.
Further, there's a good chapter on 'Hammer' in Harper & Porter's 'British
Cinema of the 1950s, the Decline of Deference' (2003) which looks at
production context and visual style/codes.
