Hello,
This may seem like a broad topic, but I am interested in films as
ethnographic tools. I'm currently taking a course right now where we are
reading Tristes Tropiques by Levi-Strauss, Predicaments of Culture by James
Clifford, Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, and some others. I am
interested in formulating a paper which focuses on films used as an
ethnographic tool, or as being overly intrusive when attempting to function
in an ethnographic way. I am wondering if _Nanook of the North_,
_Amandla!_, and _Haxan_ would work? What other films am I missing? I know
there has to be a multitude out there. Anything available for purchase on
DVD would work. Also, if anyone knows of any further reading I can pick up
in relation to this topic, please, let me know. I will listen to any
suggestions.
Thanks in advance,
Joe
P.S. I hate to shill my own work, but I recently wrote a paper on _The
Silence of the Lambs_ that I am quite happy about. If anyone is interested
in reading that, drop me a direct e-mail and I'll send it to you as an
attachment. Thanks again!
