Dear all,
The following PhD opportunity (starting March 04) is concerned with research
into appropriate knowledge transfer and training frameworks for the UK low
carbon sector:
PhD studentship available - January 2004
An INREB Faraday Associate position (PhD studentship) is currently available
to undertake research into training and education programmes for the
construction industry, to help deliver low carbon buildings in the UK.
During the development of INREB's Knowledge Transfer programme for training,
education and skills in the construction industry, the Partnership has
identified a need to carry out research into appropriate means of developing
knowledge within key industry target groups, such as clients,
decision-makers, planners, architects, engineers and end-users. This PhD
programme will therefore aim to:
- Analyse the construction process for low carbon buildings from
conception to completion;
- Engage with key stakeholders to identify the skills and knowledge
required, and to understand the nature and timing of interactions between
groups;
- Develop appropriate knowledge transfer frameworks. These may
include "just-in-time" CPD programmes, work-based e-learning and training
events;
- Deliver of a "tool-kit" that facilitates transfer of the outputs
of the project to other related sectors within the construction industry.
Based at the Building Research Establishment (BRE), Watford with academic
support from CREST at Loughborough University, applicants are required to
have a good understanding of the construction industry and hold a first- or
upper second-class degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant
discipline.
The position is a 3 year full time programme starting early 2004 and funded
by EPSRC and by INREB's Industrial Partners. For UK residents, the bursary
covers all tuition fees (around £45,000 over 3 years) and a stipend of
around £12,500 per annum.
Closing date: Thursday 5th February 2004
