Your students / colleagues can gain invaluable fieldwork experience as
part of a Global Vision International Marine Conservation Research
Expedition. Opportunities are available for experienced and beginner scuba
divers to spend 5 - 20 weeks collecting data as an active member of a
research team in the Seychelles and Mexico. Please read on and share this
information with your students (and fellow lecturers).
Global Vision International currently operates 3 marine research
expeditions with 2 research bases in Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsular and
one recently set up in the Seychelles at the Cap Terney Marine National
Park.
GVI’s marine research and conservation expeditions support some of the
most pristine as well as the most threatened underwater environments in
the world. All expeditions are run in conjunction with local NGOs and
governments, GVI scientific research personnel, local project staff and
teams of international participants to offer critical support to our
world’s marine eco systems. Highlights include unparalleled field
experience, dramatic locations, underwater surveys and marine mammal
projects.
GVI is working closely with a number of organisations including:
• Nature Protection Trust of the Seychelles (NPTS)
• Local government Marine Parks
• Seychelles Ministry of Environment
• Marine Conservation Society of the Seychelles (MCSS)
• International NGOs and universities.
• Amigos de Sian Ka’an in Mexico (ASK)
• CONANP (National Commission for the Conservation of Natural
Protected Areas) in Mexico
• University of Quintana Roo, Mexico (UQROO)
• Reef Check
• The Coral Reef Alliance
• CORAL
GVI is now seeking expedition members to join these Marine Expeditions for
5, 10, 15 or 20 week periods throughout 2005. Expedition members do not
need to have previous diving qualifications and will receive comprehensive
training in the field to equip them with the necessary research skills and
marine survey techniques to benefit the expedition.
NEW Internship Opportunities!
Expedition members participating for 10 weeks have the opportunity to
apply for an unpaid internship to increase their stay and further their
field experience by a further 10 weeks as a member of GVI staff. All food
and lodging will be provided by GVI.
