The Ecological and Environmental Education Special Interest Group (EEE SIG)
American Educational Research Association (AERA)
Proposal Deadline: August 3, 2004
Full Papers Due: March 1, 2005
Paper Presentations: April 11-15, 2005 in Montréal, Québec, Canada
MONTRÉAL
The Ecological and Environmental Educators invite to you the AERA Annual meeting in Montréal,
April 11-15, 2005. Montréal is an exciting city and a great place to meet. And, this venue will
encourage stimulating conversations with our Québec-based colleagues. Through a program of
scholarly presentations within the AERA conference, and our own social activities, the EEE SIG
seeks to foster collegial friendships and strengthen our research community.
SUBMISSIONS
The EEE SIG of AERA invites submissions of high quality research paper proposals from new and
experienced researchers whose work relates to ecological education, and/or environmental
education within formal or informal contexts.
This year’s AERA theme is timely and appropriate, “Enhancing the visibility and credibility of
Educational Research.” If we are to create conditions for social and environmental change then we
will need to be speaking to an ever-larger audience.
With this in mind, we are particularly interested in Ecological and Environmental Education
proposals relating to:
• The decade past and the decade to come (critical perspectives on research breakthroughs of the
past and challenges for the future),
• Research utilization (relations between research and policy/practice),
• International activities (issues relating to war/conflict, and development issues),
• research methodologies (new approaches to empirical or theoretical inquiry and meta-analysis),
and
• learning (learning theory, practice, and networks in formal and informal settings)
REVIEW INFORMATION
Paper proposals should thoroughly describe all aspects of the completed research with particular
attention to the information that will be needed to make judgments about the final paper. Paper
proposals will be externally reviewed. It should be clear to the reviewers that authors have
consulted the paper writing, formatting, and research quality resources in the May issue of
Educational Researcher and online at the AERA website. Briefly, review criteria include:
a. research topic (originality, importance, relevance to program theme)
b. relevance to EEE research
c. contribution to education
d. frameworks (theoretical, conceptual, methods, knowledge of prior EEE research)
e. mode of inquiry (research design, methods, rigor, use of evidence, quality of data sources)
f. analyses and interpretations (significance of conclusions; implications for research, practice, or
policy; usefulness of findings)
g. written proposal (quality of writing, clarity, logic, organization)
h. audience appeal (SIG membership, reviewers, EEE researchers, international)
i. format (appropriateness of format to content)
j. opportunities for interaction with audience.
