Dear All,
We have had a couple of recurring problems and cannot seem to find a
perfect solution for them. I was wondering if others have encountered
them as well and what solutions you have found. Woudl you be so kind
and let me know how many of you have encountered issues 1 and 2?
Known Issue 1: Prompt to install 'FrontPage CD', typically
when using the Discussion Board. Blackboard and Microsoft's reason is
that the 'triedit.dll' file has been 'disassociated' in Internet
Explorer. Recommended fix is to re-install IE!
- Has anyone found a better solution fr this? It is obviously not very
recommendable for home users, especially those with limited knowledge
of IT. Can we really expect students to reinstall IE at home?
Known Issue 2: Prompt to install 'Microsoft Office CD',
typically when using the WYSIWYG Text Editor. Blackboard
and Microsoft's reason is that Blackboard is trying to use
the Dynamic HTML (DHTML) Edit control. When you install
Micorosft Office, the default is for this DHTML feature to
'Instal on First Use'. Therefore it prompts the user to put
in the CD when they first try ot use DHTML.
- If you have encountered issue 2, how have you solved ? Have you set
the Office settings for DHTL to either install at original install or
turned off the option altogether?
- Why does issue 2 relate specifically to Microsoft Office when you
don't need to have Office to use Blackboard? Are all problems only on
machines that happen to have Office installed?
Thank you ever so much for any help with the above two issues.
