"The Participatory Development (PD) Forum is an international network of
development practitioners, NGOs, activists, academics/action
researchers,
students, private sectors representatives and policy makers interested
in
advancing reflection and practice in the area of participatory
development. Formed in 1996, the PD Forum was established as a
non-profit
organization in 1999.
The PD Forum mission is to promote a philosophy of participation that
advocates for people's capacity and right to define and control their
own
development, in order to achieve social justice and equality with the
following objectives:
* To share field experience using participatory methods among
practitioners, policy makers and academics working in this area
* To encourage the adoption of alternative approaches to mainstream
participatory development
* To develop understanding of and capacity in participatory
development and
* To exchange information about participatory development initiatives
(e.g. conferences, publication, training in participatory methodologies)
Currently we are seeking for Ideas and Volunteers to help us in the
following activities.
1. CONFERENCE
The PD Forum would like to organize another Conference in late summer of
2005 at the University of Ottawa. We are seeking your help for:
* identifying conference theme/s
* organizing the conference
* any other suggestion
The level of support we get, particularly the number of volunteers we
can
recruit from the Ottawa region will determine if we can organize a
conference next summer. We hope we can. We need your help.
If you are based outside of Ottawa and internationally, please send us
your feedback and thoughts. We would love to hear from you.
2. TRAINING
In the past years, the PD Forum has designed and delivered training
pertinent to participatory development to universities, NGOs and donors.
We would like to continue this activity in the coming years. Currently
we
are looking for volunteers to conduct a few short training sessions.
For those who are based outside of Ottawa and internationally, please
email us your feedback and thoughts.
3. SPEAKERS SERIES
The PD Forum is soliciting your thoughts and suggestions to identify
potential ideas/themes and speakers for our speakers series. This is one
of the activities of the PD Forum that generates an in-depth and dynamic
discussion on participatory development.
