Betreff: CFP: Journal of Middle Eastern Women's Studies (no deadline
noted; journal issue)
The Association of Middle East Women’s Studies announces a new journal,
JMEWS
(Journal of Middle East Women’s Studies). JMEWS seeks to advance the fields
of Middle East Women’s Studies, gender studies, and Middle East Studies
through interdisciplinary contributions in the social sciences and
humanities.
Located at the cutting edge of the new scholarship in Middle East Women’s
Studies, JMEWS encourages research using innovative theoretical,
epistemological, and methodological approaches.
The journal reflects the explosion of knowledge being produced about Middle
Eastern women and gender over the past quarter century. The Middle East has
seen a proliferation of women’s studies programs and research centers, where
Middle Eastern scholars are producing rich and critical studies informed by
feminist theory and new analytical tools such as oral histories, multi-sited
ethnography, and collaborative women-centered research. In North America
and
Europe, women’s studies programs are internationalizing their scholarship
and
methods, thereby expanding and deepening knowledge about the Middle East
through interdisciplinary gender analysis and feminist insights, including
the
critique of patriarchy and power relations.
We are currently planning our second and third issues, which will be
published
in 2005. We invite original scholarship, including research informed by
transnational feminist studies, cultural studies, postcolonial studies in
both
the humanities and social sciences, science and technology studies,
masculinity studies, and emergent forms of historiography and ethnography.
We
hope to publish work from multiple disciplines in the social sciences and
humanities, ranging from macroeconomics to ethnomusicology; submissions in
the
humanities are especially encouraged at this time. Scholars from
disciplines
outside these domains, such as public health, social work, public policy,
architecture and urban planning, are also encouraged to submit work of
potential interest to JMEWS readers. JMEWS will provide a forum in which
area-specific questions can be discussed and debated among authors from the
global North and South, through peer-reviewed scholarly articles, book and
film reviews, and other forms of brief communication.
The editors are Marcia C. Inhorn, Director of the Center for Middle Eastern
and North African Studies at the University of Michigan, and Mary N. Layoun,
Chair of Comparative Literature at the University of Wisconsin. For
submission guidelines or any other information, please write visit
