Martin,
Many thanks for your positive and encouraging comments regarding the
Plagiarism Detection Service.
However, please note that it is not (and never has been) the intention of
the Plagiarism Advisory Service to publicise the outcomes of institutions
who are using the service. The service encourages institutions to share
results of pilot studies in the interests of establishing good practice,
however we do not expect Universities and Colleges to publicise details of
whether the service has indicated that they may/may not have a possible
problem with plagiarism.
Further, the PDS database is subject to stringent Data Protection
regulations which means that no data is made public to any third party
without the express permission of its original owner.
I hope I have addressed some of your concerns.

Subject: Promoting the Service
Hi All,
I'm in the process of promoting the Plagiarism Detection Service to
departments at my insitution. At the moment I'm only looking for possible
pilot projects in order to test the service and establish 'best practice',
should we decide to adopt it, officially, in our approach to the problem of
plagiarism.
I find it very easy to impress departments with the fast turnaround of
documents, the colourful and powerful Originality Reports and especially the
Side by Side comparisons. Great. However, when discussions reach an
advanced level, issues concerning confidentiality, 'league tables' and the
fact that I personally have no control whatsoever over this external
database, often create almost insurmountable obstacles. I find it difficult
to persuade some departments to use it while these questions remain
unanswered, or at best fudged.
I'd be very interested to hear from other list members who may have had
similar experiences and how they approached these problems.
Kind Regards
Martin
