I did raise this with Prof Oppenheim at the time as our regualtions
at Sheffield say that the university owns the IPR of any work done
by the students in their course of study (and I think many other
universities have similar regualtions).
As I understand it, this is a dodgy ruling and could be challenged
successfully. I think Prof Oppenhiem has been looking at this
issue for HEFCE.
