Just a note to any of you who may be using Output Area census data: Like me, you
may be using Output Area data to create user-defined zones - regeneration
areas, Communities First neighbourhoods etc in Excel. Output area data comes in
very large files - a county table might have hundreds of rows of data. A
colleague in Computing Services in Liverpool has written a clever Excel macro
for me. When you run the macro the OAs that you are interested in and the rows
of associated data are promoted to the top of the table.
You only ever have to type the list of OAs once.
The macro really speeds things up, especially if you aren't accessing census
data with a package that enables you to include or exclude areas. You can also
download wards or counties and by rearranging the data have both your special
area and the remainder of the data in two discrete parts of the one table.
