The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute is offering an exciting new opportunity for a Project Manager to develop a new Communication and Public Engagement programme, which will establish a series of new initiatives in public engagement to build on already successful activities. The Project Manager will be based at the Sanger Institute, one of the world's leading genomic research establishments, and will work with the Institute's Press and PR Officer. The aim of the programme will be to produce new and coherent activities and material for key audiences.
The job outline and person specification are below.
Job Title: Project Manager, Communication and Public Engagement
Reporting to: Head of Human Genetics
Based: The Sanger Institute, Hinxton, Cambridge
Salary: £25,000-£30,000 (More for an exceptional candidate)
Key objectives of the role:
* Increasing understanding of the work of the Sanger Institute among policy makers and other specialist groups * Enabling young people to learn about and consider the potential of genetics research in society * Developing a strategic approach to manage organised visits, workshops, Open days and ad hoc visits effectively * Developing resources and materials for display and distribution * Establishing a network with other organisations nationally and internationally * Providing a route for feedback on educational, social and community aspects of genetic research
Essential qualifications:
* A degree in life sciences with at least 5 years postgraduate experience in life science and/or public engagement in science. * An ability to translate science and genetic research, social, cultural, legal issues into accessible formats for public engagement. * Experience of
staff management
project management
commissioning/contracting work
* An ability to collaborate with national organisations
* IT literacy.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Excellent team working skills.
* An outgoing and personable personality, with a self-motivated, professional attitude.
Desirable qualifications:
Experience of collaborating with national/regional organisations on major projects.
Ability to train and develop staff
