Dear Alan:
I must clarify what I mean "features".
I'm not meaning only "how the object looks like", even in the physical
sense.
I think that the main feature of an onject to designology is "how it looks
likely to be used". In fact, "use", is the main feature of the
designoshere's objects.
When I think of Design I allways remenber J.K. Jerome's episode when the
three man in a boat found a cann of pinneapple and they don't find the
cann opener and they end by smashing the cann with the boat mast.
Predicting the use is the core of Design activities.
"Reading" a boat mast must lead us to a moment in wich that type of mast
was designed to serve as a boat mast that one's expect to be
exelent. "Reading" a boat mast as a cann opener is possible and even
interesting to designology if we find that it can be a good cann opener,
solving the problem of sailors that forgot to bring their cann openers.
Mending Sciences as all to do with purpose and use.
I'll came back to this later.
Best,
Eduardo Corte-Real
