Absolutely. Buyers for companies and buyers for store chains contribute
to the worst decisions. I've often said (in reference to account
executives for graphic design firms) that the way you sell design
defines the way you do design. It's true even if the sale is after the
design, I suppose.
It would seem that one of the best things academic study could do for
product design is to look at ways the distribution chain could be
improved to help improve design.
