A reminder follows about the conference Early Modern Spain: Some 21st Century Perspectives http://www.sas.ac.uk/irs/Events/Confs%2002-04/Early%20Modern%20Spain/early_modern_spain_intro.htm which will take place at the Institute of Germanic & Romance Studies, Senate House, on Friday 5 November 2004.
The conference, organised by Dr Richard Pym (RHUL), will explore the relationship between the complex and often contradictory realities of early modern Spain and the insistent rhetorics of nation and kingship, of race and gender, of a monolithic body of shared values and beliefs, and of a centralized and ostensibly absolutist legislative apparatus which furnished the 'official' ideological landscape of Habsburg Spain. Speakers include Trevor Dadson, Alexander Sampson, Barry Ife, Alistair Malcolm and Jules Whicker.
