Dear all,
I wonder if I may take a quick straw poll of Bb 6.x users who are
operating with sizable usage, say 700+ courses and experiencing
reasonable/good performance. Are there any out there?
Here at Ryerson University in Toronto we are running such a system over
3 load-balanced servers, for 20,000+ users. Quite an operation!
Moving here from Oxford Brookes University last autumn (where at the
time we were running WebCT 3.8 on a single box for about 200 courses) it
is the shear scale of things here which is mind blowing. Unfortunately
it's not only mind blowing - it also seems to push hardware to the edge too!
We are currently exploring options with advisors from Blackboard, to
enable us to increase the stability and performance of our system and I
was curious to know if there were any institutions 'back home' who could
offer any advice. For example, is anyone using one big mainframe class
server?
Any advice you can offer which may shed some light on what other people
are saying/advising in the University community, for operating Bb 6.x on
a large scale would be very helpful.
