medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
If my feeble memory serves, the original question asked for English women saints canonised more or less in accordance with the procedures established by the reform papacy in the late 11th and 12th centuries CE. That would certainly include Margaret of Scotland, canonised in 1251 (surely neither the accident of her Hungarian birth nor those of her Scottish marriage and queenship make her any less English). But, as far as I know, it would not include any women saints from the Anglo-Saxon period (regardless of when "England" is held to begin) other than Margaret herself. Sorry, Etheldreda! Sorry, Ebbe the elder!
Best,
John Dillon
