medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I've been reading through a copy of Notes and Queries from 1891, and one of
the notes mentioned that in the Middle Ages, the Spanish Jews and the Jews
in Worms both claimed that at the time of the crucifixion, they sent
emissaries to Pilate to vote against Christ's crucifixion. The writer to N&Q
went on to say that although this was undoubtedly nonsense, it was claimed
in order to prevent persecution. Unfortunately the writer did not give his
sources for this, and so I was wondering whether anyone on the list could
direct me to any source that mentions this.
I'd also like to take the opportunity to wish everyone on the list a happy
new year.
