The British Records Association's 2003 Annual Conference will take place on
Tuesday 2 December from 09.15 hours at the Royal Statistical Society, 12
Errol Street, London EC1.
Entitled 'On the map : maps as historical evidence' speakers are expected
to be - in alphabetical order - Elizabeth Baigent (Oxford), Peter Barber
(BL) Jeremy Black (Exeter University), Steve Erskine (OS), Yolande Hodson
(Tewin, Herts: OS), Roger Kain (Exeter University), and Sarah Tyacke (The
National Archives/PRO); the Maurice Bond Lecture at 18.00 hours will be
given by Paul Harvey (University of Durham). The paper hand-outs and
publicity state "Take a closer look at maps; their history, their value as
historical records and their place in the digital age". Subjects range
from town plans, tithe maps, the bases of historical maps and atlases, 16th
- 17th-century maps for government, c16th - 18th-century charts in
exploration, the Ordnance Survey, and digital mapping.
Cost for BRA members: £65.00; for non-BRA members: £120.00; for students:
